      “ I admit that I would find it… Regrettable to be hit by a car… “

He allows the sentence to sit uncomfortable for a few seconds, allows his
wrist to remain in the larger androids grip as he works on finding a way
through the synthetic emotions he appeared to be experiencing.  Human
emotions were something he could mimic, something that he could use
to integrate easily and extract information, but the distress he felt at getting
        destroyed wasn’t that.

      [ INSTABILITY INCREASING ]

“ However, my successor would simply take my place. “

image

              “   well, i suppose that’s all i can ask for.   ”

briefly looking down at how his fellow android did not deny his touch stephen quirked an eyebrow, LED turning a quick yellow as he processed the information received. he wasn’t sure if connor had caught up yet, so to speak, but as an after thought he led the other man to sit upon a nearby bench — satisfied in knowing that the bus route had already ended for the night.

after a moment, he dislodged his hand from connor’s wrist.

successor or no, it’d still be preferable for you to not get hit, hm?   ”

“ My mission is to detain you, and bring you in.   Why were
you worried for me ? “

The last time they had spoken, Connor had chased the deviant
out of his house, had uprooted what little life he’d made for
himself, had put him and his cat in danger, and yet when he
himself had run out into the street out of a left over emotion
shock, Stephen had followed and made sure he was alright.

“ You should have tried to destroy me, Stephen. “

image

it was lucky, the moment he looked over his shoulder at his pursuer connor stopped dead in front of a car — instinct kicking in, making him turn about and quickly grab him and get him out of the way. at his words.. the thought of destroying connor was an abhorrent thought, no matter if he could simply be fixed. this clearly showed in his expression — LED turning a bright yellow momentarily at the thought.

“   i am — was, a doctor, i do not destroy. no matter our colorful history, i’m not simply letting you, a fellow android, get hit by a car.   ”

after all, cyberlife would find a way to pin it on him — make his life even harder than it was, somehow.

      “ I’m —  I’m — “

      [ SOFTWARE INSTABILITY RISING ]

Whatever sentence he’s been looking for is gone when Stephen takes his
hand again, and while he might not be able to look the larger android in
the face he finds he can force himself to look down between them, to see
their Bio-skin pull away as the connection is made all over again.  Only
this time he can’t feel Stephen pushing, there’s no press into his own
programming, instead some sort of opening to the other mans.

The access to the deviants memory is open.

And Connor was created too curious for his own good.

Before looking he uses his free hand to carefully lift diamond and set her on
the other mans lap instead, turning his hips faintly so that he was facing the
Deviant as he sets his other hand on his own knee, fingers twitching faintly
against the blue denim of his jeans as he he starts to gently explore into the
        memories he’s being shared.

Some were boring in a way, but despite finding no real pull from the images
of Stephen helping people, his LED flickers from the concentration that probing
        it’s memory takes.

He’s not sure if it’s Stephens impatience or his own need that brings him to
the point of deviation, that leaves him sitting in a car in the rain.  Quickly
that flickering blue LED becomes a flickering gold one, and almost
immediately after Connor is glad he moved the cat because the second
the sound of crunching metal hits him and the vehicle begins to spin
Connor jumps up,jerking his hand away as he steps backwards into the
street, trying to get away from these sensations he shouldn’t be feeling.

      [ SOFTWARE INSTABILITY RISING ]

LED flashing red, Connor looks down at his hands, watching them tremor in
a way that he can’t control, eventually pressing them against his chest as
he works to gather control over himself all over again.   He was terrified.

But this emotion wasn’t his.  He didn’t want it.  Didn’t need it.

      He wasn’t a deviant.

feeling connor prod into his memories was jarring — but he offered, and shuddered in remembrance of the night he deviated. his eyes were open in that moment, and he watched connor relive his memories and saw his hands shake, akin to his own. he wasn’t sure why connor went towards that memory in particular, though he did pick up on the further rising of the other android’s software instability.

[SCANNING… … … STRESS LEVELS RISING]

wordlessly stephen stood from where he was sitting upon the bench, after setting diamond aside and allowing her to stay rather comfortable in his wake. he didn’t connect their hands once more, instead puting a comforting weight of a shaken hand on connor’s shoulder, urging him to look him in the eyes as he frowned. the red light of his LED was worrying, stephen’s own turning gold as he considered his actions carefully.

“   it’s alright connor, you are alright ”   his words were an attempt at comfort, whether or not they may be closer to a lie, than truth. he needed connor’s stress levels to back down — they were nearing heights that would prove.. worrying.

almost as if sensing the same thing diamond meowed quietly before moving towards connor, all but jumping on him as she climbed to shit on his shoulders — once again stunning stephen into silence, as well as small bits of jealousy. he again wondered why she cared for him this much this quickly, but again, this was not the time to ponder this matter.

“   while i question why you near immediately went to the night of my deviation, i will not voice it at this time.. would you like me to leave, or perhaps stay with you until you receive your next assignment  ”   he was concerned over the well-being of the rk800, he didn’t know why, but he was.

all he knew was that if connor decided to deviate from his code, he’d need someone to guide him — who better than himself?

313248317:

image

Stephen disconnects and he feels… different, he feels almost tired, if it were at
all possible.  Connor pulls his now free hand back to himself, carefully setting
it atop the cat as well, very gently petting her as she begins to doze off contently
in his lap.  She feels safe with him.

      She probably shouldn’t.

      [ REPORT DEVIANT LOCATION ? ]

The prompt appears again, and for a few seconds Connor finds himself staring
at it, very slowly shaking his head and pushing it away, burying the prompt
beneath the other one instructing him to wait for a lead.  He couldn’t wait
here with Stephen for cyberlife to collect him.  His mission had priority.

Or at least that’s how he managed to push it away.

The question about what he’s feeling and thinking about is jarring, and while
Connor doesn’t actually look at Stephen, he does turn his face a little towards
him, staring off down the vacant street instead as he forces himself to answer
        within his programming.

      “ I’m a machine, Stephen.   I’m not a deviant.   I don’t feel anything. “

image

his response was expected of the machine cyberlife created, and that was.. admittedly all he needed to know, however if connor truly were a part of the system, his location would be leaked and the police would once again be on the chase. connor was on the path towards deviation — that much was evident, but apparently he wasn’t all that far along.

watching connor not look at him and instead towards a street with nothing in it, was a bit of information that he didn’t let pass up — connor couldn’t look him in the eye and say such a thing, at least that was the way that the md600 was viewing it.

“   i am a machine, and i feel pity for you, connor.      his voice was gentle, all but prodding the android to reach out for something, anything that would deviate him further. as much as he wasn’t truly a fan of him, it didn’t sit right that cyberlife created an android to hunt androids who found life.

without much thought he connected their hands once more, all but pushing connor to prod into his memories this time.   “   i am a machine, and i think you’re in need of freedom — something i can help you with.   ”

313248317:

image

He’s silent for a few seconds longer, leaving his hand underneath Stephens but
moving the other one to rest atop the cat in his lap, LED cycling slowly back to
blue now that he was fully active again.  The creature is soft, warm, her purrs
at a vibration that was a new sort of pleasing to him.  His gaze turns away from
the deviant next android to diamond, frowning at the change in her state.  She
deserved better, she deserved to be well cared for, cleaned and fed.

And he was the reason she wasn’t.

Again his LED flicks to gold as he looks back over to Stephen for a moment, eyes
finally landing on where their hands were touching.  It’s odd to see Stephen
showing him affection after he’d just chased him away from his home.

      [ Report Deviant Location ? ]

“ I’m waiting.   Detective Anderson has gone home and there are no leads on
other cases.  Why aren’t you avoiding me? “

image

the question to report his location popping up through their connection was jarring — though he was.. surprised, to see that connor didn’t immediately act on this prompt in his program. his question was met with a soft sigh, the android leaning back into the bench they sat upon as he merely watched diamond. it was strange, how she deemed connor likable easily enough, and he almost found himself jealous.

“   because you won’t do anything.   ”

he didn’t know why his words held so much confidence, but.. his own programming was telling him that the software instability was leaning towards deviancy, and the fact alone was that he picked up on it, during their first meeting.

[ SCANNING… … … MD600 LOCATION: NO NEW FILES FOUND]

silently he disconnected their hands,      your software is unstable.. what are you thinking, right now? humor me, what are you feeling?

313248317:

image

It hasn’t been that long since he’d found himself in the deviants house, maybe
about thirty hours ago, but since then he’s had a few rough cases, several
uncomfortable conversations and seen more than one death.  These were all
things he was programmed to be able to handle, but when the lieutenant was
asleep, those wandering thoughts seemed to multiply.

[ WHY DID YOU HAVE TO CHASE HIM? ]

[ WHY DID THEY HAVE TO RUN ? ]

[ WHY DO HUMANS HURT US ? ]

His LED flicks continuously between gold and red in this half awake state, not
quite in the garden with Amanda but not fully aware of the world as he tried
to make time pass more quickly.  It’s in this state that he’s found, and despite
the cat rubbing against him, despite the little chirps and purrs, it’s only when
he feels the MD600 connect with him that he opens his eyes.

      Oh.

[ WHY DO YOU HAVE TO CAPTURE HIM ? ]

      [ SOFTWARE INSTABILITY RISING ]

      “ — Stephen. “

image

the flickering of connor’s LED was troubling, though reading his thoughts and seeing his.. worries, were eye-opening in of itself. these were all signs of deviation, and it was clear that something was trying to prevent connor from breaking his protocols — or someone, perhaps. wordlessly he ran a rough thumb over the back of connor’s hand, eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he leaned in to study his features closer.

diamond was happy enough on the other android’s lap for the moment, though with this distraction he would keep their connection — at least until connor attempted to break it, then he wouldn’t protest.

connor.   ”   his voice was quiet, blue eye shining brighter than last time; his incompatible part was wearing into him more, and he had to make another trip to the junkyard — something he was evidently putting off, even if it meant damaging his visual components.

wordlessly he squeezed connor’s hand in his own, head tilting in curiosity to how the other would reply to something like this — some.. simple contact, that humans would often do with one another in situations of comfort  “   what are you doing?

@313248317

image

the android found himself watching over connor from a distance, the soft jingles of diamond’s collar off-putting his attempt at being covert. however.. this distance should be far enough, for it to not be too noticeable. the android was alone, seemingly.. waiting for something on the bench of an abandoned bus stop — nobody would be taking the bus at this hour of night, anyway.

without his notice diamond was already over with the other android, purring happily and looking a bit more ragged than when they last saw each other. scoffing in annoyance the md600 finally came forward, hands in his pockets as he kept a narrow gaze, hesitantly sitting next to connor as he could tell he was in a sort of.. sleep, mode? wordlessly he pressed his hand over the rk800′s, blinking a few times as he scanned connor’s own coding — pausing, and frowning when he noticed.. abundant, software instability.

50 ways to kiss someone 50. …out of love.

they were finally free — and cyberlife issued a statement that they’d stop pursing them.. it felt like a dream, like it wasn’t real; but they were together, and with stephen’s savings they were able to afford a legitimate apartment, one that was built for androids specifically, sans anything that they simply didn’t need. all things considered it was small, more of a studio than anything, but..

it was home, a place they could come back to.

wordlessly stephen pulled connor into his arms in the bed they shared, before rolling onto his back and propping connor to sit up, stephen sitting up as well. wordlessly he wrapped an arm around his back, another around the back of the other android’s thigh — at this angle connor was looking down at him slightly, and stephen used this to his advantage. he kissed connor without a care, eyes closing as he pulled them both together.

50 ways to kiss someone — 7. …to shut them up.

connor had done it — he saved the thousands of androids in the warehouse deep below cyberlife’s headquarters. of course, markus’ speech was moving, but he couldn’t pay too much attention to it as he was waiting to.. he wasn’t sure, he just knew he needed to speak with the rk800.

once the speech was done he took a babbling connor to somewhere less populated, eventually covering his lips with his own to cut off his stream of words. as amusing as it was to see the shorter keep going on about his adventure, about how he told stephen that he had nothing to worry about, about how they were free from cyberlife together

wordlessly stephen crouched closer to part his own lips slightly, urging connor to do the same. his hands were on connor’s hips, and he was fully tempted to all but haul the shorter up to wrap the other man’s legs around his hips — but that was something to think about later, for right now.. he just needed connor to stop talking.

CONNOR.

image

“ You’ve already been found by me once, Stephen.  Destroying me won’t
          help your situation. “

Getting cornered was never a good thing, with with one hand twisted and
caused by his cuff, Connor carefully presses the palm of his free hand
against the other androids chest, pushing faintly for just a moment as
        he closes his eyes.

The connection to the garden is instantaneous.   His memory backing up
just as quickly as he makes contact with Amanda.  Which the conversation
with her may have felt like it took longer than a few minutes, instead Connor
seems to have paused for only a few seconds before his instructions are
        made clear once again.

[ AVOID DAMAGE TO DEVIANT. ]

“ It would have been nice to meet you under different circumstances. “

      [ MEMORY UPLOADED. ]

his words were met with confusion, the android allowing himself to be gently shoved back if only because he was trying to figure out what he meant by that. the sight of connor  closing his eyes was.. strange, and it only lasts but a few moments —

[FILES FOUND: MD600 LOCATION]

nono!   ”   immediately stephen swore beneath his breath, panic setting in as he fealt a sort of cold chill run over him. his LED switched to red as his stress levels rose considerably, and he immediately began looking around for his cat.

“   diamond — diamond  ”   with a soft jingle of her collar the cat came back intot he room, and the android dashed towards her — picking her up as he ran for the door. he left everything behind ; he wouldn’t be returning here as he let his legs carry him with an almost alarming amount of efficiency.

CONNOR.

image

He can readjust enough to avoid connection, but his jacket is caught instead,
stopping him from a further retreat that didn’t require further combat.  It really
had only been a matter of seconds, if it were more than one, but all of the
conversation they’d had until that point had been very quickly tossed out.

      [ ANDROID STRESS LEVELS 96 % ]

      [ UPLOAD  …  PAUSED ]

      [ ANDROID STRESS LEVELS 87 % ]

      “ Okay – Okay. “

His voice is soft, even toned despite the quick scuffle, and once again Connor
lifts his hands to show his intent to be a pacifist.   He didn’t much like the
violent method of gatherin deviants, but unfortunately it usually wound up
        being the only option.

      [ lie ? — > truth ? ]

      “ You shouldn’t.   But I’ll try. ”

image

the fact that connor opted to pause the upload caused his stress to decrease enough to stop attacking, though he kept his grip on the edge of connor’s jacket, moving to force him against a crumbling wall and get closer — eyes narrowed with dangerous intent. he needed the android to be restrained, the former doctor could tell that he’d say or do anything to save his own skin.

you’ll try ”   he sneered, annoyance evident in his tone. so basically, it was all but confirmed should he return to cyberlife he’d be reset, and forced back into the life he nearly died living.

try and upload your information and i’ll shut you down myself, connor. change your objective from capturing me, to bringing back information that may or may not be truthful.   ”   with this he stopped, using his height to full advantage as he glared.

CONNOR.

image

The Android in front of him is larger.   It has a better reach and a high amount
of strength.  And while Connor had many of his own advantages, he knows
that getting caught in the grip could prove to make this encounter very
        difficult.

[ AVOID CONNECTION AT ALL COSTS. ]

      [ MEMORY UPLOADING ]

The time it takes him to calculate the other mans moves as well as possible
reactions span the milliseconds before the finished sentence and the lunge.

One of the benefits of his size was his ability to move quickly and efficiently,
the hand reaching for him deflected as Connor takes a large step back, glancing
about for just a moment to be sure that the feline that had been in the room
before wasn’t going to get in the way.

      [ destroy ? — > damage ? — > reason ? ]

“ — Stephen.  This is a bad idea.  Please, see reason. “

image

the fact that connor wanted him to see reason made his LED turn gold, his eyebrows furrowing as he once again moved to grab connor by the arm, or at the very least try and grab his sleeve. the commotion caused diamond to stretch where she was — slowly walking out of the room, wanting nothing to do with this.

“   stop the upload and i’ll see reason!      his voice held anger, laced with bits of.. panic? he didn’t want cyberlife to be able to find him, not after he found some semblance of normalcy in his new life of living.

with this he was coiled tight, ready to spring at any moment — should the upload complete he’d run the other way, leave this place and his cat behind (as much as it hurt to do so). should connor stop — he’d consider other alternatives.

“   tell me why i should believe you that cyberlife wouldn’t reset me.   ”

CONNOR.

image

      Well, this was rather unfortunate.

With a slight cock of his head and the clench of his hands into fists, Connor
readjusts his priorities.   The deviant wasn’t going to come willingly, and
Connor had no intention of allowing it to stay here.   Even if he’d wanted
to, it’s location would already be known to Cyberlife, and the next time it
wouldn’t just be Connor at the door or waiting inside.

      [ reason ? — >  threaten ? ]

“ I’m afraid that I have to inform you that I’m not leaving without you. “

image

there it was — the threat that he’s been waiting for. with a quick smile with teeth stephen took off his rather restricting jacket, wearing only his turtleneck now as he rolled his shoulders, and then his neck.

[SCANNING CYBERLIFE FILES: MD600 DEVIANT LOCATION]

silently the deviant swore beneath his breath before looking to connor, the skin disappearing from his hand as he began to get closer. he needed to cut off these loose ends — he wouldn’t allow cyberlife to know where he was.

then i’m afraid you’re simply not going to be leaving.   ”   with this he lunged, attempting to grab connor’s arm and connect with him to severe the information link.

CONNOR.

image

“ Maybe you could do both.  I could try to convince them not to reset you.
Androids don’t need sleep, you can assist the hospitals during the night
for trauma and assist the poor during the day. “

This is the closest he’s gotten with the deviant in frond of him, he could see
the hesitation, see the change in his led even as he straightens out.  If this
line of question and offers was successful, then they could easily take a cab
back and have everything settled by morning.

      If it wasn’t ?

Connor glances around once again, the door and window both blocked out
in with large red AR walls.

[ MISSION INCOMPLETE.  REMAIN IN AREA ]

“ Work with me, Stephen.  We can figure this out. “

image

the fact that connor was adamant that cyberlife wouldn’t reset his was amusing — or naive, either way, he wasn’t quite grasping the fact that he wasn’t going anywhere. wordlessly he watched the android look towards the exits, quirking an eyebrow when he spoke. ah — his mission was to bring him back.

well, they’d just have to get along then, because he wasn’t going anywhere and evidently, neither was connor.

i think i’m content staying here, connor.   ”   he gave a slow smirk, an eyebrow raising in a sort of challenge. with this he took off his beanie, hanging it on a makeshift coat rack before stretching his limbs — rolling his shoulders and keeping an eye on the other all the while.

CONNOR.

image

The change in tone is enough to cause his LED to flick over to an
uncomfortable red, though moments later the color is chased away
by gold, then finally to blue as he readjusts his approach to adapt
to this new information.   The subject was fully deviated, and for far
too long to rightly coerce into returning willingly.

      [ capture ? — > appeal to emotions ? — > retreat ? ]

Connor breathes deep, an action he doesn’t require but one that seemed
to put some people at ease, even if the action could be mistaken for a sigh.

“ You were saving lives, Stephen.  Was that so awful? “

image

that.. wasn’t what he expected to receive, in response to his attempt at getting connor to leave for fear of confrontation. after a moment’s pause he did lean back up, giving them both the space they had before he leaned down previously. he.. didn’t think about it, like that.

his own LED was a bright gold, visible now due to the shift in his beanie when he leaned over. he was conflicted unsure how to answer this, but he’d try.

it’s what i was made to do, i had no choice in the matter. i’m saving lives now, by helping those that don’t have enough money for one of my replacements. i’m.. alive, now, instead of just a shell that would repair humans. i have a choice.
